WE NEED MORE MINORITY PHYSICIANS:

Today, although there is one physician for every 290 non-minority Americans, there is only:

1 Hispanic physician for every 770 Hispanics.

1 Native American physician for every 2,000 Native Americans and

1 African American physician for every 1,400 African Americans. You can help change these numbers. YOU CAN DO IT!

FILLING A SPECIAL NEED:

As a minority physician you'll provide an extraordinary service. You can draw on your culture and traditions to improve health care for your community. As a physician, you'll help save lives.

  1. You'll be a role model for youth.
  2. You can encourage more medical research into the unique health problems of different minorities.
  3. You can help your family, friends, and patients understand the health-care system better.

YOU CAN DO IT!

PREPARING FOR A CAREER IN MEDICINE:

You'll be well prepared for a medical career if you:

  1. Care for people and like to help them.
  2. Enjoy science and have a great curiosity about people and the world.
  3. Find learning exiting - good physicians are constantly learning.
  4. Are willing to work hard and get good grades.
  5. Are committed.

Talk to your family doctor... and talk to your science and math teachers and your counselors. Ask them to help you choose classes that will help you prepare for a career in medicine.

THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE:

The U School of Medicine, part of the Health Sciences Center, is situated in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain range on the east side of the 1,600-acre University of Utah Campus.

As a U of U Medical student, you'll get terrific training in a stimulating setting which includes:
